The difference is that it is flexible and allows for more (or less) time depending on what your child needs. You get no guilt or shame from me if seven days comes and goes and your child still isn't potty trained. This process will give you the framework for what to do and you and your child get to decide how long it will take.
Being potty trained doesn't mean no accidents ever, it means there is enough steady progression until you consider your toddler to be mostly accident free. From the start of potty training, it can take a toddler several months to several years before they are completely accident free. When you feel confident that your child can go long stretches of time without an accident for the majority of the time, consider that successfully potty trained.
Let me let you in on a secret: all those books and websites promising your child will be fully potty trained in only xx amount of days aren't being honest. There is no way to guarantee how a child will behave or react to a potty plan, therefore it's impossible to make that promise. The 7-day plan provided in the Successful Potty Training Toolbox is a guide so you know what to do each step of the way, but every child is different so how long it takes your child to be fully potty trained will depend on them.
